Step Flashing is a vital component for protecting intersections between roof surfaces and vertical walls, such as chimneys, skylights, or dormers. Its name comes from the way individual metal pieces are layered—like steps—beneath each course of shingles or panels. This overlapping method creates a watertight seal that redirects runoff away from wall penetrations, preventing leaks and long-term moisture damage.
Each piece of step flashing tucks under the roofing material and bends up against the wall, forming a continuous barrier that channels water downward and outward. Because of its modular installation, step flashing adapts easily to irregular roof slopes and uneven wall surfaces, maintaining performance even in complex architectural conditions.
We fabricate step flashing from .032, .040, or .050 aluminum, 24ga or 26ga steel, and 16 oz. copper, ensuring durability, flexibility, and compatibility with adjacent metal components. All versions are available with Kynar 500® coatings, providing fade-resistant color and long-lasting corrosion protection. This allows the flashing to blend seamlessly with metal roof panels and wall trims.
Each piece is custom-formed to standard or project-specific dimensions, with consistent bends and clean edges to simplify installation and reduce field cutting.
